Rodríguez was nominated by President Barack Obama in December 2013 for Director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). From July 2014 to January 2017, he led 19,000 USCIS government employees in the decision-making of tens of millions of immigrant petitions.

The son of Cuban immigrants, Rodríguez’s USCIS tenure balanced an appreciation for immigrants hoping to provide a better life for their families with pragmatic and progressive initiatives to weed out bad actors in immigration programs such as the EB-5 Investor Pilot Program.
Before leaving USCIS, León Rodríguez emphasized he would be active in the immigration community for the rest of his life. We’re excited to add his valuable perspective to all three cities as one more reason to attend.
